With 14 Blue Flags in its assets, the Municipality of Ayia Napa was ranked first in Cyprus and in this year's Blue Flag Awards Ceremony, as the Municipality with the most awarded beaches.
The ceremony took place today, Thursday, May 31, at the Municipal Baths in Kato Paphos and was organized by the Municipality of Paphos in collaboration with the National Judge and the CYMEPA Organization.
The beaches were awarded, "Konnos", Limnara "," Sand of Kambouri "," Glyki Nero "," Pantachou "," Loukos tou Manti "," Katsarka "," Pernera "," Vathkeia Gonia "," Nisi "," Nissi Bay "," Landa " "Makronisos" and "Agia Thekla".
The flags were received by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Mr. Costas Kadis on behalf of the Mayor Mr. Giannis Karousos, the beach inspector of the Municipality Mr. Dimitris Pateras.
In his greeting, Mr. Kadis stressed that the Blue Flag is an international institution and is the most recognizable ecological symbol of quality in the world that rewards organized shores and is awarded with strict criteria.
Through this institution, he added, whose pioneer is the organization CYMEPA with a close partner of the Department of Environment, beaches are awarded, which achieve high quality environmental goals. A necessary condition, he said, for the awarding of a coast with the "Blue Flag" is the exceptional quality of the water in it.
The ceremony was also attended by MPs from the Paphos District, Mayors and other officials as well as representatives of the 63 award-winning beaches.
