The fire that broke out at noon on Wednesday, May 24, in a semi-basement two-story apartment complex in Ayia Napa, was due to a short circuit in an electrical switch, as determined after investigations.
A statement from the Fire Service states that "around 13:50 p.m. yesterday, a call was received about a fire in the semi-basement of a two-story apartment complex in Ayia Napa. The Police and the Fire Service responded with three fire engines from the Fire Station of Famagusta "Sergeant Adamou Adamou" and the Fire Station of Xylophagos.
It is added that "the fire was located in an electrical switch that was in contact with a pile of waste materials in a semi-basement space under the staircase and was extinguished before the arrival of the Fire Service by residents of the complex. Members of the Fire Service carried out a check in all apartments for any trapped persons, inspection and ventilation.
The Fire Service in collaboration with the competent authorities investigated the causes of the fire and it became clear that "the fire appears to be due to an electrical problem/short circuit in an electrical switch".
