DERYNEIA: Appeal of Karagiannis to Kadi for utilization of an area near Nekra for beekeeping

The Mayor of Deryneia, Andros Karagiannis, appealed to the Minister of Agriculture for the development of the area near the Dead Zone for beekeeping.

In a letter to the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Costas Kadis, regarding "the use of the area adjacent to the Dead Zone for the production of genuine honey for the benefit of citizens" Mr. Karagiannis notes that this area "is full of garbage, due to their uncontrolled deposition, especially in the evening, by unconscious citizens ".

He adds that "the area of the Dead Zone and near it, could be turned into a place of creation and production of genuine honey for the benefit of beekeepers who are interested in expanding their activities, to increase or even improve the production of natural honey. In this way, the reckless dumping of garbage will be avoided to a large extent, since it has been proven that where there are beehives, the pollution of the area is largely avoided, either due to fear or due to respect for insects ".

In his letter, the Mayor of Deryneia also states that "at a time when climate change, land use change, loss and degradation of natural habitats, lead to the extinction of bees and other winged insects, the development of beekeeping near it "Dead Zone could be an important factor in avoiding pollution in the area and around it and at the same time rescuing insects."

Andros Karagiannis appeals to the Minister of Agriculture to study his proposal and to contribute "to the provision of further incentives for the development of this area, thus achieving the support of Cypriot beekeepers, the production of genuine Cypriot honey and the avoidance of rejection and rejection. of the Dead Zone ".

It is noted that the Mayor of Deryneia also sent the letter to the Ministers of Interior and Foreign Affairs, the Commissioner for the Environment and the Chief Civil Affairs Officer of the United Nations.
