Surely you have seen some of the amazing, drone photos that circulate on instragram and we have published in our profile with wonderful landscapes from Ayia Napa, Protaras and in general the province of Famagusta. Many of them belong to Nikolas Petrou, a young man just 21 years old who was born in Paralimni and lives in Protaras. Nicholas has traveled to more than 14 countries, 10 of them in just 80 days, and through his unique photos and videos he records his travels and experiences creating an amazingly admitted diary.
See the work of Nikolas Petros at Instagram and YouTube.
Nicholas spoke to Famagusta.News for his work and how he decided to travel and photograph the whole world.
I have always loved photography and cinematography since I was very young. I enjoyed watching National Geographic and observing all the wonders of the world, telling myself that one day I would travel and see them up close.
I have not followed the traditional method through the University to study photography, because I personally believe that one does not need to study the art of photography. What I have learned, I have learned through practice and in the course of my work. Nevertheless, it is good to go to University (so as not to be misunderstood), but on the other hand there is the internet and my opinion is that everything can now be learned this way, while in addition, there is the possibility to meet people with the same interests as photography and you can share your passion.
I have traveled to 14 countries so far and the reality is that this has only happened this year. I have traveled 10 countries in 80 days. The countries are as follows:
In a few months I will travel to India and tour the whole country from North to South.
Initially I started traveling simply because I wanted to visit new countries and gain new experiences. But then I became interested in taking photos from my travels. So I started traveling to more dangerous places, just to satisfy my photographic "curiosity" and to record with the pictures a story that only I knew.
I like all kinds of photography because each one has its own story to tell. But I love landscape photography more because personally, it is the most difficult type of photography that one can capture, but also the most difficult to be able to describe a story.
No I have not done it although I would love to if someone could host my works.
All these years I have used all the brands of machines that exist but recently I have come up with Fuji. I also use drones for my work and to date almost everything has passed through my hands. But the smaller a drone, the better because it makes the journey much easier. To be honest, one can have the best and most expensive equipment in the world, but if one does not know how to use it, and if one does not know how to capture a photograph, then it is as if it has no use. The advice I would give to everyone is that the best camera is on the mobile, so let them take advantage of it!
For me, photography is not a simple hobby. It is a way to express a story through images and to show the world how I see the world through my eyes. Photography is for me the real love for the world.
At the moment my immediate plans are to travel and see how much this world has to offer us. Then I will decide where I would like to build an office or a showroom. But after completing all these trips, my final destination will definitely be Cyprus.
