A new housing plan for the displaced was approved by the Ministry

A new housing plan for the displaced was approved today by the Council of Ministers, with the aim of preventing Greek Cypriots from selling their property to the occupied ones through the so-called compensation committee.

The Minister of Interior, Socrates Hasikos, said that with this plan, every displaced person who has a house or a plot of land will be able to benefit from a relaxation to build either a second house or to add to the existing one.

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Hasikos said that the issuance of titles to refugees living in settlements has not stopped, adding that "the government gives titles and we have given several titles but we do not celebrate".

"You will not see the Minister of Interior going to settlements to shake hands and hand over titles," said Mr. Hasikos, clarifying that "what cannot be done is to build new settlements."
