According to the Police, today around 04.15 in the early hours of Wednesday, members of the Famagusta TAE stopped a 35-year-old man from Ukraine, who was walking on foot, in Ayia Napa, following information provided by the JCC that some suspicious transactions were made in Automatic Machines in Ayia Napa.
The police officers, during a physical search of the 35-year-old, found the amount of 5, 270 euros and four credit cards.
With his consent, the Police proceeded to search the hotel room, where he is staying with a 32-year-old tourist from Egypt.
Inside the apartment were 29,400 euros in 50-euro banknotes, a laptop, a credit card encoder and ten cards, of which, after a police check, it was found that 7 were counterfeit, while the rest were blank.
It appears that the two men carried the personal data of people abroad on their credit cards. They then allegedly used the credit card encryption device to pass the data to the cards, which they then used at ATMs in Ayia Napa, withdrawing money from various accounts.
The two men were arrested on arrest warrants and brought before the Famagusta District Court, which issued eight-day detention orders.
