CTO: Hoteliers are reluctant to invest

The CTO notes the reluctance of hoteliers to invest in technology and green development issues, in a relevant note that it forwarded to the competent committee of the Parliament. At the same time, the CTO finds that the legal framework governing the operation of swimming pools in tourist accommodation is ill.

In detail, in the note addressed to the Parliament by the CTO, in relation to the hoteliers, it states:

a) Reluctance of the sector to invest in projects related to the improvement of technology (free Wi-Fi, green technology and buildings-climate change) and in general in the field of services and facilities that add value to the price (eg operational specifications / quality criteria)
b) Reluctance to invest and utilize in human resources. Reluctance to encourage labor force participation in training and education programs. Low response to the training plan for workers in units that would remain in operation during the winter
c) Hesitation in the adoption of quality assurance systems and specialization in new categories of services
d) Low response to the CTO incentive plans for people with disabilities (PWDs).

With regard to the swimming pools, the CTO note underlines that the completion of the process for the amendment of the Law on Public Swimming Pools and consequently the regulation of the issue of securing by the hotel companies, the legal license for the operation of swimming pools, is urgent. operate within these units.

The problem is particularly intense and more serious, according to the CTO, in the cases of agritourism accommodation and tourist villas, where due to their small size (capacity in beds) the swimming pools located in them, are available for use exclusively by its members. family residing in the accommodation and / or their guests and not by the general public, resulting in specific provisions of the relevant legislation, such as e.g. the constant presence of a lifeguard, the creation of separate / separate public sanitary areas, etc., to become unnecessary, but at the same time an obstacle in securing the legal operating license.
