Increase in cases COVID-19 recently – Hospitalizations have also increased

An increase in cases of COVID19 has been observed recently in the community, while the percentages of Omicron subclasses 5, BQ1 and BF7 have been increasing rapidly.

As mentioned by Dr. Petros Karagiannis, the subcategory BQ1 increased from 1% of the cases to 30% within two weeks, while the increase in the percentage of cases of the subcategory BS7 was also rapid, with the percentage reaching 15%. The remaining 55% concern cases of Omicron 5.

Today, as he said, they are expected to be informed about the new data.

At the same time, he added that a new wave of COVID19 is not expected, as at least the BQ1 subcategory is treated by the updated vaccines.

In terms of hospitalizations, the number increased to 101, with most involving the elderly and immunocompromised.
