Sentence increase to 7 years for drug case after Savvidis' appeal

In a recent decision, the Supreme Court accepted the appeal of the Attorney General of the Republic for the inadequacy of the sentence imposed by the Nicosia Criminal Court for offenses that mainly related to illegal possession and possession for the purpose of supplying, 2 kilograms and 272,1 grams of cannabis.

According to an announcement by the Legal Service broadcast by the GTP, the Supreme Court increased the prison sentence from 3 ½ to 7 years, noting that the Respondent's admission should have a reduced value due to the fact that he was arrested on his own, the amount of drugs would cause harm "to a multitude of users but also to society in general", that the penalty is not supported by jurisprudence and sends wrong messages while the performance of a deterrent nature was imposed.

Attorney General Eria Papaloizou appeared at the Supreme Court for the Attorney General.
