Seafarer airlift operation from commercial ship off Cyprus

A merchant ship crew member in need of medical attention was airlifted to the Nicosia General Hospital by the Police Air Operations Unit in the early hours of the morning.

Specifically, the Search and Rescue Coordination Center (SRC) in a statement states that "last night at 23:00 p.m., it received information that a crew member of the Ukrainian-flagged merchant ship "IZMAIL", while sailing 50 nautical miles west of Cyprus, he needed medical help."

The KSED, it is added, activated the National Search-Rescue Plan "NEARCHOS", mobilizing a helicopter of the Air Operations Unit of the Police with a specialized nurse of the Ambulance Service of the State Health Services Organization, in order to airlift the patient to the Nicosia General Hospital.

The patient was safely delivered at 01:40 after midnight to Nicosia General Hospital.
