Because it is convenient for the opposition to "hide" behind a candidacy

Political analyst and professor Giannos Katsouridis spoke about the Presidential elections and the possible candidates at Mesimeri kai Kati.

He initially stated that there is a lot of data in the political scene, without having taken shape. He added that the ruling party has apparently entered a path with a specific candidate, but there are also leaks that may change along the way.

He added that the opposition wants to cooperate, but without answering the question if it can do so. "Three parties have a congress within the month and will determine their framework", clarifying that in the next period the heat will be produced in the background and not in the foreground.

Referring to Averof Neophytou, he stressed that he is the only one who has clarified what he wants to do and how he will do it, adding that there are two negatives in his case, apart from the fact that he comes from the ruling party. "One concerns the candidacy of Nikos Christodoulidis and the other concerns the difficulty of cooperation in the first round."

He clarified that the big bet for Mr. Neophytou is to pass to the second round with an opponent supported by AKEL. "If his opponent in the second round is not supported by AKEL then things will be even more difficult for him."

Speaking about the case of Nikos Christodoulidis, Mr. Katsouridis explained that he has tracked down some decisions without locking them up. He explained that it is logical that at the level of party leadership such tendencies will not be manifested, adding that if the measurements are right then it has a significant impact on the wider strata of the center-right.

As for George Pamporidis, he said that it is a candidacy that seems to lead to convergence of AKEL and DIKO, while there are reactions from both parties. "There is the fact that he was Minister of the Anastasiadis government, with the result that negative data are projected that may disturb part of the audience of both parties."

Mr. Katsouridis stated that it is difficult for the parties to achieve gatherings that existed in the past. "The electorate has become unruly and skeptical," he said.

He noted that the Averof-Christodoulidis-Pamporidis candidacies will be an unprecedented scenario. "The vast majority of voters do not pay attention to a candidate's program, but there is also a share within the parties and they see the program convergences."

He also spoke about the candidacy of George Kolokasidis, noting that he made clear not his election but the "vaccination" of the debate with specific positions on the Cyprus issue.

He also commented on the stance of Nikolas Papadopoulos, pointing out that DIKO is gaining its regulatory role, as the other parties in this area are in a difficult situation. "EDEK has controversies, the Ecologists have an electoral conference, while ELAM will go down in the first round."

He added that DIKO's moves may attract other parties as well. "It is convenient for all of them to hide behind a candidacy and a group of parties, as this way they will all be judged together. "A failure with three or four is easier than on your own."

Finally, he mentioned that it will be difficult to find other names, while the chances of cooperation are there. "Scenarios can be calculated from now on."
