CYPRUS: Two deaths - The announcement of the Ministry of Health for the daily cases

The Ministry of Health announces that today, May 12, 2021:

- Two people have died from the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 341.

- 173 patients COVID-19 56 of whom are in serious condition.

- A total of 54,816 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 260 (positivity rate: 0,47%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases at 70,358.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The two people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:

- A woman, 82 years old, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

- A 47-year-old man who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 341, of which:

225 men (66%), and

- 116 women (34%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 77,8 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 173 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 56 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 56 patients in serious condition, 29 are intubated, six are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 21 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 54,816 diagnoses made today, 4,550 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 50,266 by antigen rapid test, 260 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 94 cases from 579 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 2 cases of 1,778 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 51 cases from 1,694 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 5 cases from 286 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 9 cases from 742 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 99 cases from 49,524 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method.

In addition, the following tests were performed, without detecting a case:

  • 213 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
