CYPRUS: Two deaths and 206 new cases

The Ministry of Health announces that today, September 7, 2021:

- Two people died of the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 518.

- 141 patients COVID-19 of which 39 are in serious condition. 80,15% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

- 9 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be treated intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

- A total of 45,712 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 206 (positivity rate: 0,45%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases at 117,197.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The two people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:

- A 67-year-old man who ended up on September 6 in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

- A man, aged 70, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of the Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 518, of which:

336 men (65%), and

- 182 women (35%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 76,3 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 141 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 39 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 39 patients in serious condition, 18 are intubated, three are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 18 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 45,712 diagnoses made today, 5,627 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 40,085 by antigen rapid test, 206 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 32 cases from 280 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 6 cases of 2,501 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 42 cases from 2,324 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 8 cases from 248 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 270 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 92 cases from 29,484 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 24 cases from 10,601 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the following tests were performed, without detecting a case:

  • 4 samples taken in the context of control of closed structures.
