A seismic tremor affected the Paphos area, according to the European Seismological Center.
The first report spoke of 4,3 Richter 60 km northwest of Pegeia in Paphos.
The European Seismological Center then upgraded the quake to 4,9 on the Richter scale.

It is noted that a strong earthquake occurred at 3:08 in the early hours of January 11 and was particularly felt in all cities of Cyprus. The quake measured 6,1 on the Richter scale, according to the Geological Survey of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment.
The earthquake was centered in the sea area of Cyprus, 50 kilometers west - northwest of Polis Chrysochous and a focal depth of 25 kilometers. The earthquake was strongly felt throughout Cyprus, especially in the province of Paphos.
