N / s for motorcycles: Why it will not help organized motorcyclists

The President of the Star Club, Tzimis Angelidis, spoke on the Front Page about the new measures decided by the Government regarding motorcycles and their driving licenses.

He initially said that motorcyclists suffer losses of 15 people per year. "In five years we can have 250 fatalities, while 30% will be motorcyclists."

He added that motorcycles account for 7% of the road network with a percentage of 30% -35% in fatalities. "It is understandable how vulnerable motorcyclists are and steps must be taken."

He added that the measures of the Minister that will go to the Parliament will help the professional motorcyclists. "They are not going to help us organized motorcyclists," he said.

He pointed out that many people drive on the streets with a student license, while not obtaining a driver's license.

As for the deliverers, he clarified that they do not have any training and buy the motorcycle and the helmet on their own. "The police must offer seminars to these people," he said.

He also spoke about the equipment, emphasizing that every motorcyclist must protect himself. "The state does not oblige me to use anything other than a helmet." He added that they had submitted an old proposal to reduce the VAT on equipment from 19% to 5%, adding that this would help machine builders equip themselves. "There are also unconscious motorcyclists that no matter what you do, they will not be corrected."

He explained that if the bills pass the Parliament, then motorcyclists will be required to wear protective equipment (jacket or vest with phosphorescent stripes, pants or boots, knee pads).

Mr. Angelidis stated that there are various categories of professionals, such as employees from companies, the self-employed and netelievers who are partners.

He pointed out that it has not been clarified who will bear the cost, adding that either the self-employed or the employer will bear it.

Finally, he stated that the state began to be interested in the Minister's moves. "In consultation, I hope we can find other ways to help reduce fatalities."
