Total 6,452 out-of-court complaints for various traffic offenses, resulted from road traffic checks, by members of the Special Motorcyclist Squadron (EOMO), the Road Accident Prevention Squadron (OPOD) Headquarters and Avdimos and members of the Traffic Police, in highways and the secondary road network throughout Cyprus, last week.

The pan-Cypriot traffic checks were carried out between the hours of 6 p.m. of Sunday 15/05/22 and 6 p.m. today Sunday 22/05/2022, in the context of the prevention of road traffic collisions, the prevention and suppression of nuisance offenses by cars and motorcycles and juvenile delinquency.
The majority of the complaints concerned offenses, which have been proven to be the main causes of serious and deadly traffic accidents.
They stand out from them 4,486 complaints, which were conducted for speed limit exceeded and 199 Complaints about driving with non-free hands (use of mobile phone).
Also worth mentioning are the complaints concerning traffic signal violations, offenses for which the members of the Police committed a total of 636 complaints, as well as complaints about driving a motor vehicle without a valid registration certificate, which amounted to 248.
Complaints concerning non-use of seat belts, parking in disabled parking spaces and traffic light violations also amounted to 315.
Also, others emerged 69 complaints of driving under the influence of alcohol and others 499 out-of-court complaints for various other traffic offenses.
In addition, from last Sunday until this morning, 37 members of the Traffic Police were detected driving motor vehicles under the influence of drugs.

In the year 2018 There were 17 fatal road accidents out of a total of 44, due to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, with 19 dead from a total of 49, as follows:
Besides, during the year 2019 There were 12 fatal road accidents out of a total of 52, due to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, with 12 dead from a total of 52, as follows:
In the year 2020 (year of onset of the pandemic) there were 11 fatal road accidents out of a total of 48, due to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, with 11 dead out of a total of 48, as follows:
Also during the year 2021 There were 11 fatal road accidents out of a total of 44, due to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, with 11 dead from a total of 45, as follows:
Targeted traffic controls continue daily, throughout the twenty-four hour period, throughout the road network throughout Cyprus.
The only goal is the consolidation of the correct road conscience by all road users and the prevention of deadly and serious traffic accidents.
