Clash of foreigners in Larnaca – They are looking for persons, causes and nationalities

The Police continue to investigate the fight between dozens of people on New Year's Eve at Finikoudes beach in Larnaca, trying to identify the causes that led to it and resulted in the injury of two people, aged 29 and 26.

As Christos Andreou, the Police's press representative, reported to KYPE, "20 minutes after midnight on Sunday, January 1st, the Force was informed that there was a fight between some people in the coastal area of Finikoudes in Larnaca. The Police responded and Force patrols went to the area, however when the persons, who appear to be foreigners, noticed the patrols, they left the scene."

He added that "it seems that the foreigners got into a fight with each other and according to information that the Police had, two people, foreigners from a third country, aged 29 and 26, were injured and taken to the Larnaca General Hospital".

"From examinations carried out by the police it was established that the 26-year-old appears to be illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and he was arrested for the specific offences," he said.

As Mr. Andreou said, "the 29-year-old has blunt force injuries to his head and arm, as well as a fractured arm. Also, a 26-year-old man suffered skull fractures, blunt force trauma to the head and complete amputation of the last phalanx of two fingers."

He also stated that "the Police have already started investigating the incident while some evidence has been identified and received from the area, which will today be sent for scientific tests with the aim of identifying the people involved in the incident. It is a large number of people and the cause of the fight is being investigated."

Responding to a related question, Mr. Andreou said that "the nationality of the foreigners involved has not yet been ascertained. The two injured people who are being treated at the Larnaca General Hospital are of the same nationality and we are trying to give us some information, however due to their condition it is difficult to get statements."

He also noted that the Police are "investigating which persons were involved in the Finikoudes beach, what their nationalities are, whether there is something behind the incident, whether there is something lurking or something more organized. But it seems that something happened at the given moment and the episode started" concluded the Force's press representative.
