A historic agreement was reached between FIFA and FIFPro on the delays in the players' earnings. Specifically, the grace period for the payment of footballers is abolished.

According to a press release sent to the media by the Cyprus Cypriot Footballers' Association, after eighteen months of intense negotiations, FIFA, FIFPro, the European Club Association and the World League Forum announced on Monday that they have reached a historic agreement, which is expected to strengthen the edifice of professional football internationally.

The FIFA-FIFPro agreement is for six years and aims to strengthen relations between the two organizations and improve the management of football internationally, the press release said.

"One of the most important changes in the regulations, which particularly affects Cyprus - since this is a common practice in our country - is the abolition of the grace period for the payment of footballers," says PASP.

"The practice of teams to delay the payment of players for up to three months, adopting this practice until the contracts, will no longer be allowed. On the contrary, all teams will be obliged to pay the players on time, while based on the changes adopted, players who will appeal in case of delays will have the right to claim an additional three to six months of earnings, in addition to full earnings. provided in their contract ", it is added.

The FIFA-FIFPro agreement also prohibits teams from sending players to individual training as punishment, and the transfer system has been further improved, with a regulation providing for the introduction of the single contract worldwide on minimum terms. Regarding the latter, PASP states, Cyprus is already quite advanced in this matter, since PASP and KOP have reached an agreement for months.

An important development is also the promotion of gender equality, the interests of women footballers, the development of women's football and the participation of women in football.

As a result of the agreement, FIFPro will withdraw the complaint against FIFA that it filed with the European Commission in September 2015.

The president of PASP, Spyros Neophitidis, stated that the grace period of three months "used by the teams" is now abolished, something that drastically changes the scene. This, he said, is a very important differentiation, which will change a lot in Cypriot football and the way footballers are treated.
