There was a very nasty "practice" called "Alligator bait", where they put small black children as bait on the alligators, in order to kill them and take their skin.
They took the children from their mothers - sometimes secretly and sometimes by force - and put them on the river banks. When the alligator saw them, he went to the shore to grab them and so they killed him.
Many times, the alligator did not die with 3-4 rifles, with the result that the baby ended up in his mouth. They never used white babies because, as they said, alligators were much more excited about black children.
Unfortunately, there were also big festivals, where people came and saw this sad sight, the fiasco of humanity. They even gave the mothers of the children, in exchange, 2 dollars.
