Beyoncé will offer $ 5.000 to people facing foreclosure or eviction because of the housing crisis caused by the new coronavirus.

Those interested can submit the relevant application from January 7, the star announced on her website, while at the end of January the 100 people who will receive the donation will be selected.

The lifting of the eviction suspension, decided in the US in September until the end of 2020, will result in "mortgage foreclosures and tenant evictions," according to Beyoncé.

"Many families are affected by the pandemic that caused job losses, illness and the overall downturn in the economy," it said.

An estimated 9,2 million tenants - about 23% of the total - have a significant loss of income during the pandemic and are unable to meet their obligations, according to an analysis by the think tank Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

Once the suspension is lifted, many of them will have to pay the rent due, or make some arrangements with the landlord, otherwise they may risk losing their home.

This is not the first time Beyoncé has supported people in need during a pandemic. Already through another program, to support small businesses of black owners who have been affected, has given a grant of $ 10.000 in 250 cases.

Also in April, it joined forces with Jack Dorsey on Twitter, donating $ 6 million to coronavirus support initiatives.
