Members of the Police arrested a 24-year-old man in relation to an investigated case of helping third-country nationals to enter the Republic. The case concerns the arrival by sea boat of 20 people in the free city of Famagusta at noon yesterday.
The boat, 8.5 meters long, was spotted shortly before 2.00:20 in the afternoon on Sunday, in the sea area of Famagusta. Members of the Port and Maritime Police who set sail with a police cruiser, located the boat on which were 13 illegal immigrants, including 24 men, two women, and five children. Among them is the XNUMX-year-old suspect.
After the members of the Police escorted the 20 persons safely to the Ayia Napa Marina, they were examined by members of the Aliens and Immigration Service - YA&M, to verify their information. During the examinations, evidence emerged against the 24-year-old, who was allegedly the driver of the watercraft. He was arrested by members of the TAE Famagusta, with a court warrant, while the remaining 19 persons were transferred to the "POURNARA" hospitality center.
