Hundreds of Famagusta residents gathered today in their occupied city to celebrate the Epiphany, organized for the fourth consecutive year by the Holy Diocese of Constantia - Famagusta, the Initiative Group "Famagusta our City" and the Municipality of Famagusta.
The celebrations began with a Divine Liturgy and the Sanctification of the Epiphanies in the Church of Agios Georgios of Exorinos in the walled city of Famagusta, headed by the Protosyggellos of the Holy Metropolis of Constantia-Famagusta, Archimandrite Augustine
In his statements, the Archimandrite said that “today we are very happy to be in our city again for the great feast of the Epiphany. Apart from its religious significance, the holiday for us here in Famagusta, in recent years, has gained special value because we are again in our city, in the blessed waters and on our land, which we bless and sanctify always wishing to be here as we want and not down from conditions we do not want ".
At the same time he wished "today the day of the enlightenment of creation and the whole world to enlighten all of us, especially our lords and those who have the responsibilities, to progress and always go for the better".
After the Divine Liturgy, the diving ceremony of the Holy Cross and the consecration of the waters took place on the beach "Glossa". Despite the bitter cold, many people dived into the icy waters to get the Cross, with the youngest swimmer being 9 years old.
