The 55 migrants who were temporarily transferred to the Ayia Napa marina last night are being sampled for coronavirus control through the rapid tests procedure.

According to the Police, the boat with the migrants was located yesterday around 2.30 at noon, sailing 15 nautical miles south of Cape Greco.

The Port and Maritime Police rushed to the area and accompanied the boat to the Ayia Napa marina.

Investigations revealed that the boat was carrying 55 people, probably from Syria, of whom 36 are men, 5 women and 14 minor children aged from two months to 17 years.

The men remained on the boat, while for humanitarian reasons the women and children were allowed to disembark and spent the night in the marina of Ayia Napa.

The competent Services of the Republic rushed to the area in the morning, while with the completion of the rapid tests it is expected that the immigrants will be transferred to places of accommodation.
