A young Irishman who was on holiday in Cyprus complained that some people deceived him by leading him to a narrow street, where he was raped.

The 20-year-old claims he was enjoying his night out in Ayia Napa last month when he was approached by a man who promised him tickets to a nightclub. When the complainant was at a certain point to buy the tickets, the suspect started beating him and after stealing his mobile phone, he raped him. The 20-year-old said that a second person appeared and took part in the attack.

The two then left, leaving the victim on stage. The Irish tourist went to a local police station where he reported being raped. According to the article in a British media, the 43-year-old Bulgarian permanent resident of Cyprus was taken to the Famagusta district court on charges of assault, sexual assault, theft and illegal possession of property.

The accused denied all charges, but was taken to central prison due to the serious charges he faces. The trial is expected to take place before Christmas and the victim will return to Cyprus to testify again in court.
