A 23-year-old man was handcuffed by the Police on Thursday (24/8/2023) after the illegal entry into the Republic and the arrival of a boat carrying a total of 21 illegal immigrants from Syria.

Specifically, on Thursday night, a boat was detected by the radar of the Coastal and Maritime Police, sailing in the sea area southeast of Cabo Greco.

The boat, approximately six meters long, ran aground outside the Port of Ayia Napa and was carrying 21 irregular migrants (13 men, 2 women, 3 children and 3 unaccompanied minors).

From the examinations that followed, testimony was secured against the 23-year-old, as the boat's navigator, as a result of which he was arrested for further investigation of the case.

The rest of the irregular migrants were transferred to the Reception and Hosting Center for International Protection Applicants (Pournara). The TAE of Famagusta continues the exams.
