Stilt walkers, jugglers, dancers, musicians and theatrical troupes from Cyprus, Greece, the Netherlands, Russia, Italy, Belarus, the Czech Republic and Ukraine are taking part again this year in the most enchanting festival in Cyprus, which travels back in time and whispers every October. myth-myth, the cookie, the cookie and the chickpea ”and transports locals and foreign visitors back to the Middle Ages.

Yesterday's opening ceremony began with the traditional parade on Makariou Avenue from the roundabout in the Port of Ayia Napa in which the performers and participants of this year's festival paraded.
Then, at the end of the parade, inside the courtyard of the Medieval Monastery of Ayia Napa, the Mayor, Giannis Karousos, the Metropolitan of Constantia-Famagusta Vassilios and the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Costas Kadalis of Kostas Kadis.
A big concert followed, specially organized for the Festival, with Vassilis Lekkas and Maria Anamaterou under the title "It was once".
During his greeting, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Giannis Karousos, stressed the particularly high attendance, which, as he mentioned, is a success for both the Festival and the city of Ayia Napa, which in mid-October manages to gather locals and foreigners. visitors by extending the tourist season and enriching the tourist product in such a way that each visitor can "take a little Ayia Napa with him".
The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Costas Kadis stressed the importance and quality of the Festival and the events organized by the Municipality of Ayia Napa, which are, as he said, directly related to the Middle Ages and function as descriptive representations of everyday life and the events of the time.
Finally, the Metropolitan of Constantia-Famagusta Vassilios, referring to the recent announcement of the competition for the renovation and utilization of the Medieval Monastery of Ayia Napa in a Research Center, Center for Studies, Conferences and Museum, stressed that the promotion of the monastery becomes an effort of the city of Ayia Napa.
The events for the 13th Ayia Napa Medieval Festival will continue at the Medieval Monastery until Saturday, October 20, a day when the closing ceremony will feature a big concert with Michalis Hatzigiannis "Touches of the Soul". Together with the impressively rising Katerina Paraschou, they will present a surprising repertoire beyond the usual of Hatzigiannis' concerts.
