As Christos Zannetou mentioned, we are at the end of the summer season and unfortunately, the negative effects of the coronavirus have affected Ayia Napa to a great extent. Both the operation and the financial activities of the town hall as well as the businesses. Unfortunately, as he said, “things were not as we expected and unfortunately it seems that they are still difficult. Here in Ayia Napa it is expected that by the end of September, several of the businesses will be closed as well as various hotel units. The situation is definitely difficult and this is a short period when the revenues related to their costs are definitely very low and sustainability is now the big factor that concerns us all especially for the businesses here in Ayia Napa of a Municipality where the 90% depends on the tourism industry. "

The works continue

As he said, projects that have started are being promoted to be completed. New projects, as he said, are unfortunately to be implemented, but many have been frozen. "It is not fair to say that we are moving forward with the projects since it appears that the financial liquidity and the situations that we expect to see in the near future, seem bleak and very difficult. However, the vision does not cease to exist, we continue to continue the planning and as soon as the conditions allow us, we will proceed with the implementation of various projects. ”

He also stressed that some of the projects will be implemented, with a path to their implementation as soon as possible. One of the main projects, he said, is the urban development project in the inner region of Ayia Napa, which is the reconstruction and upgrade of one of the main roads and parallel roads of Ayia Napa, where according to him there is hope that it will help slowly. slowly attracting people to revitalize the center which is slowly dying here in Ayia Napa.

He pointed out, in fact, that things are still difficult and unfortunately the optimism is declining even for 2021 regarding the developments regarding tourism in the world.
