Photos from the rescue operation of a young Irish tourist from the Sea Caves in Cape Greco were published by the Larnaca KSED.
Here is the announcement of the Search and Rescue Coordination Center:
"On July 12, 2019 at 17:30, the Larnaca KSED received information regarding the fall and injury of a young person (19-year-old Irish tourist) at the location Thalassines Spilies (Palathkia) in the area of Cape Greco.
The KSED mobilized rescue forces which due to the unfavorable weather conditions and the high waves that prevailed in the area, it was not possible to operate both by sea and by air.
Therefore, a special team of EMAK was called to the spot from Kofinou station, which picked up the young man and handed him over to an ambulance of the Ambulance Service of the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) which, after providing him with pre-hospital care, transported him to the General Paralimni Hospital.
On the occasion of this incident, the KSED reminds the public that, according to a recent decision of the responsible state services, approaching and diving at the site of the "sea caves" in Cape Greco is strictly prohibited, as according to an inspection by the Department of Geological Survey has been deemed dangerous due to increased erosion.
