The Police arrested a 37-year-old man yesterday, after the arrival of a boat in the sea area of Famagusta, carrying irregular immigrants.
A judicial arrest warrant was issued against the 37-year-old, to facilitate the investigations regarding the case of assisting third-country nationals for illegal entry into the Republic of Cyprus.
Specifically, yesterday at noon, a suspicious vessel was detected by the radars of the Coastal and Maritime Police in the sea area southeast of Cape Greco.
Shortly after XNUMX:XNUMX p.m., the suspect vessel was spotted and intercepted by a Coast and Marine Police vessel eight nautical miles southeast of Cape Greco.
A total of 18 men (among them a minor) from Syria were on board the approximately five meter long boat, who were safely transported to the Ayia Napa marina.
According to testimony obtained, the driver of the boat was the 37-year-old man, who was arrested on a warrant.
Subsequently, after the completion of the relevant procedures, the irregular immigrants were transferred to the accommodation center for irregular immigrants "Pournara".
