Two men aged 19 and 21 years old were arrested yesterday afternoon by the investigators of the TAE Famagusta to facilitate the investigations regarding the new arrival of illegal immigrants yesterday afternoon in the area of ​​Cabo Greco.

Specifically, on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 13:20 p.m., 2 ships carrying illegal immigrants were spotted southeast of Cabo Greco.

The first boat was carrying 30 migrants (13 men, 6 women and 11 children) all from Syria and the second boat was carrying 117 migrants (92 men, 8 women and 17 children) of which 116 were from Syria and a 21-year-old from Lebanon.

All the migrants were taken to the Ayia Napa Marina and after their information was recorded, they were transferred to the Pournara reception center.

When questioned, the migrants said they left last Thursday from Tripoli, Lebanon after paying the sum of US$2.500 each to an unknown person.

From the interrogations, testimony was secured against 19 people from Syros and 21 people from Lebanon that they were the navigators of the ships and they were arrested for obvious crimes.

Today they appeared before the District Court of Famagusta in Paralimni and a detention order was secured against them for a period of 6 days.
