Hoteliers in the province of Famagusta expect occupancy rates that will exceed 70% by the end of the month, while they are satisfied with the increased tourist traffic, which was observed during the Easter holidays.
As the President of PASYXE Famagusta, Theodoros Takkas, stated in KYPE, "the Easter period has moved to the hotel units of Ayia Napa and Protaras in high volume" and this is due to the fact that both Orthodox and Catholic Easter were more calendars this year. which led to the start of the tourist season in early April.
He further expressed the assessment that "this year's tourist season is expected to be better than 2017, as the major travel agents have included in their programs the month of April, which in other seasons was mistakenly considered as a winter month".
Regarding the hotel infrastructure, the President of PASYXE Famagusta stated that the product offered in the free province of Famagusta has increased both in terms of number and quality and that next summer, the number of tourist beds will increase further. As he said, "four new hotel units are expected to operate this summer, which in combination with the renovations and extensions of a large number of hotel units, will lead to two to three thousand new beds."
At the same time, Mr. Takkas stated that two other tourist units are under construction, one of which is located within the municipal boundaries of the Municipality of Sotiras, which has joined the group of tourist municipalities of the province of Famagusta.
Nevertheless, Mr. Takkas expressed concern about the fact that competitive markets, such as Turkey, show a sharp increase in demand, he said, and estimates that "it will play an important role in bookings."
The President of PASYXE Famagusta also referred to the "problem of lack of specialized staff for which the Pancyprian Hoteliers Association is in consultation with the competent Ministry" in order, as he said, the start of the new tourist season to start without problems.
Finally, he said that "PASYXE Famagusta in collaboration with the Famagusta Province Tourism Development and Promotion Company and the COBALT Airlines will organize a workshop in Lebanon next month to present the Famagusta province in the Lebanese tourism industry. .
