Costas Koumis and Doros Takkas on the prospects for tourism in El. Famagusta

Hoteliers and businessmen in free Famagusta are fighting against time to welcome the first tourists who this year are expected to arrive earlier due to the Easter of the Catholic Church at the end of March.

Nevertheless, according to statements by the Vice President of the CTO, Costa Koumi, despite the expectations, this year needs special attention, as the traditionally competitive markets to our country are coming to the fore again.

As stated by the President of PASYXE Famagusta, Theodoros Takkas, things are better this year. Large tourism organizations start their program from 1η April and some from March, while the vast majority of hotels will open at least a month earlier.

Renovations and extensions are progressing at an intensive pace, as well as the construction of new hotel units which will enrich the tourist product in Ayia Napa and Protaras with three thousand new beds next summer.

Mr. Takkas also noted the construction of new hotel units. According to him, at least six new units are currently under construction in Protaras and Ayia Napa. Some of them will operate in 2018 and some in 2019, including the new unit located at the municipal boundaries Sotiras.

At the same time, the Cyprus Tourism Organization estimates that in 2018 new increases in the tourist flow will be recorded, without ignoring the fact that traditionally competing countries, such as Tunisia, are returning to the forefront.

The Vice President of the CTO, Costas Koumis He stressed that our country can expect an increase of 3 to 5 percent which will occur mainly due to the increase in tourist beds. It is known, after all, that Cyprus in the summer of 2017 showed excellent occupancy rates.

Among the important steps taken in tourism, are recorded the important development projects by public and private initiative, such as the marinas of Ayia Napa and Paralimni and the strategic goal of local authorities to attract better quality tourism.
