An eight-day detention order was issued today by the Famagusta District Court against a 28-year-old Syrian man who was arrested yesterday by the Police at the Hospitality Center in Kokkinotrimithia as a suspect in a case of assisting third-country nationals to enter Cyprus illegally.

The 28-year-old Syros was inside the boat which was found last Wednesday at 2:20 pm sailing unmanned 6 miles off Cape Greco and in which there were, literally stacked 120 people, 14 unaccompanied minors, 3 women, 6 minor children. members of three families and 97 men of different ages.

According to the information of Famagusta.News, the Police seems to have reached the arrest of the 28-year-old after an investigation of his data, since the specific one was wanted by both the Cypriot and Italian authorities as a suspected trafficker.

More specifically, it seems that he had arrived in our country again in July 2017 on a boat with immigrants from Paphos and then submitted a request for political asylum which was nevertheless withdrawn because he did not appear at the examination and was wanted by the authorities.

He appeared before the Famagusta district court today, which issued an 8-day detention order against him.

The case is being investigated by the Famagusta Police Department.
