A rally was held today in Paralimni on the issue of extending the 1st of April Avenue in Paralimni.
The gathering was convened by a group of shopkeepers which is affected by the creation of a roundabout and a dividing island in the southern part of the 1st of April Avenue at the junction with Stadiou Street, the construction works of which are expected to start soon.
The group of shopkeepers expressed its opposition to the creation of a dividing island, while for his part the Mayor of Paralimni stressed that the Municipality of Paralimni by decision of the Municipal Council approved the start of construction work, calling on shopkeepers to consult with the Municipality for finding solutions that will agree with the design philosophy but will not affect either the traffic or the safety of the road network.

In a meeting held today at the City Hall of Paralimni, we expressed our opposition to the creation of a dividing island in the road section of the extension of 1st of April Avenue. At the same time, we called on the state to proceed with the reduction of the proposed roundabout and at the same time to provide facilities to those affected who are adjacent to the roundabout.
During the rally it was decided to suspend the dynamic protest measures until Friday, March 22, 2019. For this purpose, we called on the competent Minister and the City Hall of Paralimni to complete the new plans and to take into account our requests.
