The Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Mr. Prodromos Prodromou had on Friday a meeting with the President of the Party for Animals Mr. Kyriakos Kyriakou regarding the events at the Lyceum of Paralimni.

After the meeting, the Minister made statements to journalists.

He specifically stated:

«We had a meeting with the President of the Animal Party and his associates, whom I would like to thank for his interest. Of course, from the first moment we had contacted by phone, as well as other animal welfare organizations, because we were all shocked by these inhumane scenes that unfortunately took place inside a school.

As I informed him, an investigation will be launched into Paralimni High School, where these aberrations and cruelty to animals have been reported. The investigation that will be carried out by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth (YPPAN), according to the existing Regulations, is carried out independently and in parallel with the investigation conducted by the Police. I would like to thank the Police again for the cooperation we had in the case of the tragic incidents at Paralimni High School but also for the preventive action, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, in some other high schools in which, in some cases, vandalism was prevented. .

We will wait to see the findings of the research process, but the message that must be sent is that we can never tolerate such inhuman and barbaric behavior towards animals.

As I have said before, the right attitude of man towards animals, but also the love for animals, is part of the general education, the education that we want to give to schools. These scenes we saw are just the opposite. It is something we want to rule out that has no place, in any case, in schools.

"It is really sad that a school - the specific high school that we have reason to say is a good school - some people tarnish with such behavior."

Then, the Minister, answering a journalist's question about the research that will be carried out by the Ministry, clarified: based on operating regulations. Of course, apart from what happened at Paralimni High School, there is a thought that in cases where such incidents occur with sparklers, fireworks and other dangerous events inside schools, schools may have to close their activities and those who endanger students should be prosecuted. students and teachers. Those who think that their schooling can be combined with barbaric behaviors should forget it. "Such a thing will not be tolerated."
