The Municipality of Sotiras will dispute, by any legal means, decisions that were "taken in his absence".

The municipality of Sotiras reaffirms its determination to safeguard its well-meaning interests and to promote development always with respect for the environment, using every available legal measure at its disposal.

The announcement

Among other things, he intends to proceed with the legal challenge of the Special Ecological Assessment, which was carried out in his absence, without any consultation as it should have been done and which constitutes a blatant injustice and an obstacle to the development of the Municipality and specifically the coastal front.

As evidenced by the recent decision of the Council of Ministers, according to which a license granted by the previous government for a specific development in the area of Agia Thekla was revoked, based on the provisions of the Special Ecological Assessment, the beachfront of Sotiras is condemned, its value is nullified and large investments that are in the works, are now permanently removed, with consequences not only for the local but also for the national economy.

The specific "ecological assessment" was done without the knowledge of the Local Authority and is contrary to the provisions of the Local Plan, which was only recently approved after seven years of consultations with all relevant government agencies. We underline that the plan also includes a strategic environmental study. It is noted that the municipality of Sotiras is the first to design its beach front with pioneering studies perfectly harmonized for today's environmental needs.

We would wait for the meeting of the Sotiras Municipal Council with the Minister of the Interior, scheduled for July 14, before making decisions that are perhaps a precursor to the next developments.

We also emphasize that at the same time there is an ongoing consultation, which was started by the Parliament and with the agreement of the services.

We declare that we are ready to continue the discussion in order to find solutions that will not do injustice to the region and will not harm the environment, in the context of always equality.

In no case do we want to be an exception with more rights, but neither will we tolerate the victimization of an entire region and its inhabitants.
