The exhibition entitled TOPOLOGIES is the result of selected work of students and graduates through a collective activity between the Department of Fine and Applied Arts of Frederick University, the Municipality of Deryneia and IDEABAR. The students and graduates involved have been invited to approach again, as well as to re-imagine the meaning of Cypriotism in the context of its modern conciliation and its current dynamics. They have been encouraged and guided in installations of multiple and different artistic and design approaches, practical applications and expressions that result from the modern Cypriot and international Art Landscape.

The exhibition takes the form of an artistic research study. Creative tensions are cultivated and explored between traditional and historical representations of Cypriotism, as presented through the collections of museums and contemporary views and works of art, and as evidenced and shaped in the context of the issues raised by the project.

The visual intervention in the premises of the Museum of Folk Art of the Municipality of Deryneia, demonstrates the critical artistic gesture of the whole project: to provoke critical correlations and highlights on key issues and to emerge collective and personal narratives around the concept of Identity, perhaps shedding light on in its realities and fantasies and in its constructions, which will turn their gaze to the possibilities but also to the ambiguities of a re-examination of the identity of Cyprus and its world. The exhibition comes as a continuation of the visual and design research of our students around these thematic fields through related actions and exhibitions of the last three years.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Mayor of Deryneia, Mr. Andros Karagiannis.
