The Government's primary concern is to tackle unemployment and, in addition, improve employment, Minister of Labor, Welfare and Social Security Zeta Aimilianidou said today in a May Day message.

In her message, Ms. Aimilianidou said that Labor Day is a milestone for the struggles, sacrifices and demands of workers to ensure decent work, progress and prosperity and their basic rights.

Today, he said, we honor those who fought for these rights, as well as for workers' peace and solidarity in Cyprus and around the world. We recognize, he continued, "that the contribution of the trade union movement and the workers in general in the effort to secure labor rights and to build social progress, is undoubtedly very important."

He stated that "the Government's primary concern is to tackle unemployment and, in addition, to improve employment through the utilization of the workforce, but also to continuously upgrade the quality of life of workers and society in general." In this context, he noted, "we continue to implement the policy of subsidizing labor, promoting the implementation of a series of measures aimed at enhancing employment and controls for the implementation of legislation and protection of labor rights."

Ms. Aimilianidou said that “we attach particular importance to the strict control of the labor market, aiming at protecting the rights and employment conditions of employees and ensuring their equal treatment, regardless of gender, origin and religion. Particular emphasis is also placed on safeguarding legal employment by strengthening mechanisms aimed at combating illegal and undeclared employment. To this end, both legislative and other regulations are being promoted, which are expected to contribute effectively to the fight against illegal and undeclared employment. "

Ms. Aimilianidou wished everyone a Happy May Day, assuring on behalf of the Ministry and the Government in general, that "we will work hard and decisively to restore the economy and ensure the institutions of the Code of Industrial Relations, tripartite cooperation and labor rights ”.

"The message we want to send today is a message of hope and optimism for a better tomorrow for our country, through the good cooperation of all of us", concluded the Minister of Labor.
