Vegan Parents Nearly Kill Their Baby With 'Alternative Diet'

The incident took place in Florida, USA

A couple of vegan parents from Florida are facing accusations that they put the life of their 5-month-old baby in immediate danger. The indictment against them states that they replaced the diet recommended by the pediatrician with an "alternative product from melted potatoes". The five-month-old baby was found one step ahead of starvation.

According to an Independent article, the baby was found in a bony condition and was constantly sleeping. He still weighed about half a kilo from the weight he was born with. "I have never seen an infant in such a place, so close to death," said one doctor.

The baby's parents, 20-year-old Julia French and 31-year-old Robert Buskey, asked a doctor to recommend the milk that the baby would drink. However, they did not agree with his proposal and decided to feed the baby with a recipe they found on the internet based on mashed potatoes. The baby was malnourished and ended up weighing just 3,7 kg.

"I have never seen a baby in such a condition. "His ribs were scratched on his skin," said Detective Lauren Watson, who found him after a complaint was made. Fortunately, as of Wednesday, the baby is feeding properly and has already gained 200 grams.

Of course, according to experts, it is not excluded that the baby in the future may face a problem in both mental and physical development due to the treatment he received from his parents.
