It is a frightening moment when a balcony of a house on the beach of Malibu, which is full of people, recedes and falls into the sand and rocks below.
Several people were injured, two of them seriously, according to US media reports.
The Los Angeles Fire Department arrived on the scene Saturday afternoon, and eyewitnesses said in a statement that they had gathered for a birthday party when the incident occurred.
"We heard a noise and I literally saw some of my best friends and my girlfriend fall from a height of 4,5 meters on the rocks," a man told KABC. "It was a terrible accident. I do not know how it happened… The balcony literally receded ".
A total of 9 people were examined to determine if they had been injured. Four were taken to hospital and two were seriously injured, according to authorities.
The landlord who rented the house told CBS Los Angeles that he learned from neighbors that there were about 30 people in the house, many more than the 6 allowed to be in the house.
He claims that he spent three hours trying to get the young people to leave before the balcony collapsed and threw them on the beach. She also said that in addition to the collapse of the balcony, her house had been vandalized.
Firefighters said more than 15 people were on the balcony when it collapsed.
