Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan visited Hagia Sophia yesterday, accompanied by him, to inspect the conversion of the monument into a mosque next Friday, July 24th.
Erdogan was briefed on the progress by Culture and Tourism Minister Nuri Ersoy, Istanbul Governor Ali Gerlikaya, Interior Minister Ismail Soylu, Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, and the Religious Affairs Officer.
The Turkish president stayed inside the monument for about an hour and then left with his entourage where the presidential car and his entourage were waiting for him. There was a very strong police presence, the presence of journalists was not allowed while Erdogan left without making any statements and greeted from afar, the small number of visitors who were at that time in the area of Sultanahmet Square outside Hagia Sophia.
Turkish media also published photos of Erdogan inside the Hagia Sophia.
