Opening of a competition for the recruitment of Contracted Soldiers (SSOs) in the National Guard

The Ministry of Defense announces the start of a competition for the recruitment of Contracted Soldiers (SSOs) in the National Guard. Applications will be accepted from 07 to 23 December 2020. The announcement, which states the required qualifications, the recruitment process, as well as other necessary information, is posted on the website of the Ministry of Defense (http://mod.gov.cy) .

Those interested should properly fill out the relevant Application (a copy of which is also posted on the website of the Ministry of Defense https://mod.gov.cy), which should be submitted by the applicants themselves or authorized representatives them, at the District Military Offices or at the Citizen Service Centers (CSC) of Famagusta (Paralimni), Pelendri and Polios Chrysochous. Also, applications can be sent by registered mail to the District Military Offices.

It is emphasized that when presenting the same or an authorized representative, the identity card should be presented, so that the identification of the person is successful.

The following certificates must be attached to the application, as specified in the application form:

  1. Copy of both sides of the Identity Card (the identity card should be presented for verification).
  2. Copy of High School Diploma.
  3. Copy of a certificate of very good knowledge of the Greek language (only for graduates of recognized foreign language Secondary Education Schools), based on the acceptable evidence determined by the Public Service Commission (see Circular No. 256, dated 15.10.2019, on the website http ://www.psc.gov.cy).

Candidates will then be notified via e-mail and/or SMS for the Medical Examination, the Sports Test and the Military Test.

During the Health Examination, which is scheduled to begin at the end of January, candidates must provide the following:

  1. General blood, urea, sugar, creatinine, transaminases, hemoglobin and general urine.
  2. FACE chest X-ray with doctor's opinion.
  3. Ophthalmological examination recording the visual acuity and the degree of refractive error of each eye, the presence or absence of color blindness and the presence of a disease or condition with a doctor's opinion.
  4. Otorhinolaryngological examination and audiogram with a doctor's opinion.
  5. Electrocardiogram, with a doctor's opinion stating that the candidate can participate in the Sports Test and the Military Test.
  6. Psychiatric opinion stating that the candidate does not suffer from an active mental illness.
  7. Medical certificate from a gynecologist (only for female candidates) that the candidate does not present any problem of a gynecological nature.
