Members of the Police (Poaching Prevention Unit of MMAD), while on a motorized patrol yesterday afternoon in an area of the Nicosia district, spotted a car moving suspiciously, which had its headlights off.
The car in question was stopped for inspection and it was found that it was being driven by a 41-year-old man.
In the search that followed, a quantity of packaged meat (beef), weighing approximately 500 kilograms, was found inside the car.
At the same time, a second police patrol spotted and stopped another car in the area, which was also being driven with its lights off, with a 31-year-old man as the responsible driver.
In a subsequent investigation, a large amount of money was found in the possession of the 31-year-old, which he said was intended for the purchase of meat from the 41-year-old.
Court warrants were issued against both of the above persons and they were arrested to facilitate investigations.
