The first and highest obligation remains the effort for a solution of the Cyprus problem and the reunification of the people and the homeland, President Anastasiadis assured.

Speaking at the laying of the foundation stone for the new offices of the occupied communities of Famagusta province, Nikos Anastasiadis stressed that the debt to the homeland defines the goal of ending the Turkish occupation and the return of refugees safely to their homes.
At the Crans Montana conference, he added, the Greek Cypriot side directly raised for the first time the issues of guarantees, invasive rights and the withdrawal of the occupying troops.
He assured that, despite the disappointment from the results of the summit, he is not going to give up the effort and reiterated his readiness to return to the negotiating table to discuss the existing differences on the internal aspects of the Cyprus issue.
He stressed, however, that in order to avoid what happened in Geneva and Crans Montana, any new conference on Cyprus must be well prepared, in order to overcome the entrenched perceptions that want Cyprus under Turkish rule.
