Eggs are a product that has great durability and can be cooked easily and in many ways, so it is always in our refrigerator. But how long can it be kept fresh or at least fit for consumption?

Boiled eggs are kept in the refrigerator for a week

The boiled ones are kept in the refrigerator for a maximum of one week, as during the cooking the oils in the shell are lost and they protect the egg from the bacteria. After cleaning them, it would be good to eat them the same day.

Broken raw eggs are stored for two days

As for the raw ones, after you break them, they should be eaten within 2 days. Raw unbroken eggs can be refrigerated for a further 3 weeks after the recommended date of sale and 4 weeks after the date of packaging.

Eggs: The trick with the glass and water to see if it is fresh

If you want to check if they are fresh, you can try the classic trick with water. Fill a glass with cold water and carefully pour in the egg. If it sinks, then it is fresh and safe to eat. If it floats again, then it is broken and you should throw it away.

Eggs: What is the best place in the fridge?

It is wrong to put eggs in the refrigerator door, because there are special cases for their placement, as according to food preservation specialist Vlatka Lake, the temperature changes caused by frequent opening and closing of the refrigerator, make the eggs spoil faster.

According to Vlatka, eggs should be refrigerated immediately after purchase and even in the coldest part of the refrigerator. Of course, in many other countries it is customary to leave the eggs at room temperature after purchase.

"In the case of eggs, there are many opinions about where to store them, with some arguing that they should be refrigerated and others arguing that they should be stored on the kitchen counter," says Lake. "But it is best to keep them in our refrigerator, but not in the plastic egg cases that we often find on the refrigerator door," he adds.
