The future is one step closer, as mass production of Porsche's first all-electric car is set to begin next year.

In the meantime, the car has now acquired its official name: The prototype "Mission E", whose name is now used to describe the complete electrification project completed by Porsche, will be named Taycan. The name literally means "lively new horse", referring to the image that has existed since 1952 in the center of the Porsche shield, that is, to the galloping ati.

"Our new electric sports car is powerful and reliable. It is a car that can consistently cover long distances and is the epitome of freedom ", explains Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. The name of Asian origin also marks the launch of the first electric sports car with the soul of a Porsche. Porsche has announced the name of its first purely electric model in the context of the celebrations for the "70 years of sports cars".

Two permanently synchronized engines (PSM), with system performance exceeding 600 hp, accelerate the electric sports car to 100 km / h in much less than 3,5 seconds and to 200 km / h in less than 12 seconds. These performances come to frame the level of continuous power, which is unprecedented in an electric car, as this model can achieve multiple fast accelerations without loss of performance, while its maximum range exceeds 500 km according to the NEDC standard.

Porsche plans to invest more than six billion euros in electric mobility by 2022, twice what it was originally supposed to spend.

Of the additional three billion euros, about 500 million will be used to develop various Taycan models and versions, about one billion to use electric and hybrid powertrains in the existing model range, several hundred million to expand production facilities, and about 700 millions of euros for new technologies, charging infrastructure and smart mobility solutions.

The brand's headquarters in Zuffenhausen are currently constructing a new dyehouse, assembly facilities exclusively for Taycan and a bridge to transport the painted bodies and drive units to the final assembly site. The existing engine manufacturing facilities are being expanded to serve the construction of electric drive units, while improvements will also be made to the body shop. Investments are also planned for the Development Center in Weissach. Taycan production creates about 1.200 new jobs in Zuffenhausen alone.
