In the context of cracking down on illegal stay and illegal employment on 24/4/24 members of the YAM Famagusta arrested 3 persons who were found to be working illegally without holding a sealed employment contract from the Labor Department.

They are two men aged 25 and 27, political asylum seekers who were spotted working in a hotel unit under renovation in Protaras. The two arrested were taken to Paralimni Police Station where they were interrogated and after being accused in writing they were released to be summoned before a court later.

As their employer, the arrested indicated a 60-year-old man from a village in Famagusta District who is expected to be interrogated and charged in writing for the crime of illegally employing asylum seekers without holding a sealed employment contract from the Department of Labor to work for him.

Regarding the 3rd person arrested, he is a 33-year-old man, a political asylum seeker, who was found to be working illegally as a hotel receptionist in Ayia Napa without holding a sealed employment contract from the Department of Labour.

The 33-year-old was taken to the Ayia Napa Police Station where he was interrogated and after being accused in writing he was released to be summoned before a court later.

As his employer, he indicated a 65-year-old man from a village in Famagusta District who is expected to be interrogated and charged in writing for the crime of illegally employing a political asylum seeker without holding a sealed employment contract from the Department of Labor to work for him.

The cases are being investigated by the Police Stations of Paralimni and Ayia Napa.
