Between 1968 and 1975 she won six consecutive awards, while for this period, the category "Best Female R&B Vocal Interpretation" was nicknamed "The Aretha Award".
Franklin had a total of twenty "number 1" singles on the Billboard R&B Singles Chart. Two of them, "Respect" in the 1960s and her duet with George Michael in the 1980s, "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)" topped the Billboard Hot 100.
