In the medical world he was already known for his action and work. But the general public got to know him when our country began to take action against his pandemic coronavirus. This is the infectious disease specialist, Sotiris Tsiodras, the man who immediately won the trust of the Greeks and now our whole country is hanging from his lips.

At the forefront of dealing with serious infections

This is not the first time that Sotiris Tsiordas has been at the forefront of serious infections. In 2005 he participated in the organization and planning of dealing with the flu pandemic but also in the completion of the National Pandemic plan as a member of the writing team.

He also participated as a public health infectious disease specialist in 4-member committees of the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (European CDC), which inspected European Union member states to prepare for the flu pandemic at national level.

As an infectious disease specialist-counselor at KEELPNO, he actively participated in the treatment of daily clinical problems of infections but also in the investigation of epidemics such as the myocarditis epidemic by enteroviruses in Crete in 2003, pseudoepidemic epilepsy, and in 2003) in Argos in 2004, the pseudo-epidemic of suspected human cases of H5N1 bird flu in 2005-2006 as well as the 2009-2010 flu pandemic, malaria and West Nile epidemics in 2010-2012 and the epidemic th animal rabies in northern Greece in 2012-2013.

He was born on October 13, 1965 in Sydney, Australia. When he was a teenager his parents returned to Greece and so he went to Kypseli High School and Lyceum. His appeal to science appeared early as he graduated from school on 19 and 7/13.

In 1984 he transferred to the Medical School of the University of Ioannina but in 1986 he transferred to the corresponding school of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens with a general grade of 8,96.

A few years later, in 1991, he completed his studies with "Excellent". His clinical training began during his tenure at 401 GSNA (1992-1993). There he had the opportunity to be trained in General Pathology but also to come in contact with a number of interesting rheumatological patients, especially patients suffering from chronic juvenile arthritis as well as from seronegative vertebral arthropathy.

During the period 1991-1993 he served in the Army, as a doctor in the Health Training Centers in Messolonghi, in Arta, on the island of Symi and in the Geographical Service of the Army. In the period 1993-94 he served as a rural doctor at the Astros Kynouria Health Center and in 2001 at the Messini Health Center.

After completing his military service, his farm also went abroad.

In 1993 he passed the United States Medical Licencure Examination (USMLE) step I and the United States Medical Licencure Examination (USMLE) step II and in 1995 the step III. In the same year he obtained the Permanent ECFMG Certificate (which is the Permanent Diploma of the Educational Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates, ECFMG = Educational Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates), which recognizes the equivalence of Medical Degrees of Greece and consequently of all non-US Schools, with medical schools in the USA.

From 1994 to 1997 he was an internal medicine specialist at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in the United States and from 1997 to 2001, an internal medicine specialist specializing in Infectious Diseases at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Medicine. Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. In the years 1998-2001 it was named: Fellow at Harvard Medical School (Research fellow Harvard Institute of Medicine, Boston, MA.). He was trained in the clinical monitoring of a wide range of patients with infectious diseases, which also included patients with complex infections in immunosuppressive soil, e.g. from transplants (a world-renowned center for liver and bone marrow transplants) or from AIDS. In 2001 he obtained his master's degree from the same school.

Although he was constantly going abroad to strengthen his education since 2001, his permanent base is Greece. After completing his compulsory agricultural service at the Messina Health Center after the end of his term, he is employed as an infectious disease specialist at KEELPNO. In 2002 he submitted his doctoral dissertation to the Medical School of EKPA and was awarded a doctorate. Since December 2003, he has pursued an academic career.

He worked as an infectious disease specialist in Winter Olympic Games in 2002 at Salt Lake in the US state of Utah, while at the Athens Olympics in 2004, he was the doctor responsible for the Olympic Retirement Surveillance system.

He is the father of seven children and a singer

He is considered to have many children in every sense of the word as he is the father of seven children and his wife is called Mina. The low-key Sotiris Tsiodras is also a scholar of Byzantine hymnology and until recently used to sing every Sunday in a church in Kifissia where he lives.
