Let's face it. In the days of quarantine, most of us throw it in the food. And we have added some kilos to our silhouette. If we take into account, in fact, the days of Easter that, although in the house, we threw it out in the food, it is not excluded a difficulty to get into our jeans, to face it.

And most of us are looking for ways to lose weight. And, you may have heard of lemon water (hot or cold) in the morning, which is said to be a way to boost metabolism and thus boost weight loss.

Although this is not a dangerous view, it sounds too good to be true. So what applies? Is lemon water the magic elixir of weight loss?

"Lemon hot water does not in itself cause real weight loss," says Alissa Rumsey, a spokeswoman for the US Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

But if it replaces another high-calorie beverage, such as coffee with sugar or fruit juice, which will result in lower calorie intake, then it can help you lose weight, he adds.

Another way that lemon water indirectly helps in weight loss is that you generally drink more water and stay hydrated throughout the day.

Our body, experts say, tends to interpret thirst as hunger, so if you do not drink enough water, you may think you are hungry, when in fact you are thirsty. When your body stays hydrated throughout the day, avoid snacks and other unhealthy foods.

Thanks to its pleasant taste, it can help people who do not like water to drink more. You can also replace the lemon with orange or lime.

What you need to remember is that lemon and citrus fruits in general are acidic. So, if you avoid acidic foods because you suffer from heartburn, gastroesophageal reflux or other cause, you should also avoid lemon water.

Do not avoid lemons for the possibility of corrosion of tooth enamel, as a slice of lemon in water can not damage the teeth. If you are worried, however, you can rinse your mouth with water and wait a while before brushing.
